We participated in the 27th Kumamoto University High-Performance Mg Alloy Fabrication Research Meeting and gave a presentation on our research results on the development of magnesium alloy thin plates.
Theme: "Manufacturing AZ61 plate by twin roll casting"
The Kumamoto University High Performance Mg Alloy Creation and Processing Research Group is a group that aims to develop the Kyushu region, centered on Kumamoto, into a magnesium manufacturing center in Japan by investigating cutting-edge research trends and mutually exchanging information and studying on the development of high-strength, high-toughness materials and the development of their processing and utilization methods, in order to create high-performance Mg alloys and create effective ways of using them.
At the request of the study group, we gave a research presentation on the production of AZ61 plate using our proprietary technology, the Gonda Twin Roll Casting System (GTC). Approximately 100 people attended.
●Outline of research presentation
Since 2002, our company has been working on magnesium alloy casting using the twin-roll casting method. As a result, we have succeeded in high-speed casting and obtained a patent for this process, known as GTC. Subsequently, last year we constructed a new factory equipped with casting, rolling, and polishing facilities. At the same time, we evaluated the workability of various materials and determined that AZ61 was superior to other general-purpose materials in terms of workability and surface treatment. We are currently shipping samples of AZ61 sheets and working toward the next stage of mass production.
●What I felt through the research presentation
GTC is a manufacturing method characterized by a strong rapid cooling effect during casting, and I felt there was a great deal of interest in how this characteristic is reflected in the final plate product.
