We participated in the 110th Spring Meeting of the Japan Institute of Light Metals, where we presented and exhibited our research results.

In the themed session entitled "New Developments in Wrought Magnesium Alloy Materials - From Continuous Casting to Forming Processing," Sumitomo Metals presented the results of its research on "Manufacturing Magnesium Alloy Sheets by Twin-Roll Casting," and also exhibited samples of forged sheets, polished sheets, drawn products, die-forged products, and other products at its exhibition booth.
The research presentations were conducted in the following order: background of the research, characteristics of the twin-roll casting method, evaluation of the cast strip, and a summary. Approximately 50 people attended, and approximately 100 people visited the exhibition booth.
This experience made us realize that an increasing number of researchers and companies are placing their hopes on our magnesium research.

Furthermore, the twin-roll casting method we are researching allows for rapid solidification of molten magnesium, making it possible to refine the structure and cast thin plates, which makes it possible to significantly shorten the rolling process. Another major feature is that it is possible to cast not only AZ31, but also AZ61, AZ91, AM50, AM60, etc.
