We participated in the National Magnesium Symposium in central Niigata Prefecture and exhibited.

At the National Magnesium Symposium in central Niigata Prefecture, academic and industrial personnel involved in magnesium from all over the country gathered to give presentations and hold panel discussions on the current state of cutting-edge magnesium alloy product development and examples of processed products.
We exhibited and introduced various cast, rolled and polished sheet samples, deep drawing test pieces, and an explanatory video on the twin roll casting method, in relation to the research and development of magnesium alloy thin sheets.
 
[What is the twin roll casting method?]
As shown in the diagram below, molten magnesium alloy is poured between horizontal rolls, solidified instantly, and then pulled out at high speed to produce a thin plate, which can be cast at speeds of over 100 m/min. This method can be used to cast aluminum alloys as well as magnesium alloys.
 
[Features of this construction method]
Rapid cooling allows us to produce cast plates with fine equiaxed grains. This makes it possible to roll a variety of materials, and also allows for direct die forging of cast plates for manufacturing.
High-speed casting allows for high productivity, making it easier to balance capacity with the rolling process.
Because thin plate casting is possible, the amount of work required for rolling can be reduced and the rolling process can be omitted.

The prototype plates are wrought and die-cast cast plates and rolled plates. Similar materials can also be manufactured.

Cast plate: thickness 2-6mm, width 300mm
Rolled plate thickness MIN 0.5mm, plate width 300mm
 
→ After the mass production machine is installed, we plan to produce coils with a plate width of 600 mm.

Example of deep drawing from rolled sheet: As with AZ31, deep drawing is possible for each material.
Example of direct die forging from cast plate: Direct die forging is possible from cast plate. The image below shows a prototype made using AM60, 6mm thick cast plate, and a good boss shape has been obtained. This method allows for a significant reduction in the material processing steps, and is considered a highlight for the development of new applications.
